DESCRIPTION: Stroke is a common disorder. It is the third largest killer after ischaemic heart disease and cancer, accounting for one in eight deaths in the developed world. This video gives an insight into the disease, using a blend of live images and computer generated animation. This video describes the brain's blood supply, explains what causes a stroke and looks at the effects on the rest of the body. It also covers PREVENTION, highlighting risk factors and suggesting ways to reduce the chances of having a stoke, DIAGNOSTIC TESTS and TREATMENT, reviewing the short and long term care of the stroke victim. The need for swift transfer to hospital following a stroke is emphasised. The significant improvements seen when patients are cared for by a team dedicated to stroke victims is emphasised.
