What is an image licence? An image licence is simply a permission from us (as the copyright owner) to allow you to use one of our pictures in a particular way. This permission is granted in exchange for a payment. All licenses are for a single use, are non-exclusive and are non-transferable.

How do I receive my image licence? You receive a paid invoice that specifies your image licence. This is sent as a pdf file to your email address after your order and payment have arrived.

How much does an image licence cost? We have several categories of licence:

• PUBLICATION & ADVERTISING instantly computes prices for any size and print run for most categories of publication.
• COMPUTER PRESENTATIONS: presentations for business & government.
• WEB PAGES: various sizes and all categories of sites.
• ACADEMIC: affordable licences for students, teachers & lecturers / professors.
• The QUOTATION FORM makes asking for a quote easy. We are always happy to give you a quote. Quotes cost nothing, are obligation free, and valid for 30 days.
• Simply email me and I'll work out a price.

Your prices are in Australian Dollars but what will that cost me in my own currency? Please see the Australian dollar currency converter. Non-Australian currency prices that we provide are approximate only because currency exchange rates vary and bank charges might apply. To confirm costs in your currency you should check with your credit card provider or bank. If you order online using a fixed price license or using the ON-LINE ORDER FORM you can check the cost in your currency during checkout.

How do I order an image licence? There are two ways to order:

1. via the web using the ON-LINE ORDER FORM which allows you to send your details and payment electronically. The form has a price calculator so that you can check prices before ordering. Payment is via a secure web page.

2. print out and complete the order form: ORDER FORM (html) / ORDER FORM (pdf). Please complete all the details and please specify AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS in the credit card section. Please remember to include the expiry date (all cards) and the security code (for AMEX). Please scan the completed form and send it as an e-mail attachment.

Can I pay by wire transfer? Yes but only by prior agreement with us. Please contact us if this is your preferred method.

I need a receipt, do you provide one? Yes, we will send you a pdf version of your invoice/permission. If you pay on line you will also receive an email receipt after your electronic transaction.

How do I receive the image? via a protected web folder. We e-mail you the URL and your username and password. You simply visit that page, enter your details and click on the image link. You wait for the image to fully appear and then save it to your hard drive.

How quickly will I receive the image? IF THE ORDER IS URGENT YOU SHOULD CONFIRM THAT WE ARE ABLE TO SUPPLY THE IMAGE TO YOU ON TIME. Please email to check. Normally, you should receive the URL of your specified image within one working day of us receiving an order and payment.

How many images do you have? All available images can be seen in our image library.

Do you create images to order? Yes, we also work on commission. We can also modify our images to suit your requirements.

Which image formats are available? Images are sent as jpegs. These are usually very large (2,000 to 4,000 pixels across) and are suitable for almost all applications. Other formats and delivery methods can be arranged.

My image appears too pale/dark, how do I adjust it? Our images should appear richly coloured and vibrant. If your image does not display or print in this way then please adjust it using an image manipulation program. Simply adjust the brightness/darkness or contrast. Please ensure that you save the original version and give the new version a new name. If you still have problems then please let us know and we will adjust it to suit your requirements.

I am a university lecturer/ high school teacher, can I use your images for teaching? Yes, we offer academically priced licences to high school teachers and university lecturers and professors. Images can be licenced individually or in sets.

I am a tertiary student and I would like to include an image in my project / thesis. Do you have discounts for students? Yes, we have an affordable academic licence designed for tertiary students who would like to use an image in a thesis (and to defend a thesis). Please see our academic licences.

I am a high school student and I would like to print out some images for my school project. Can I use these images please? Yes, please see our academic licences.

Can you help with a school project or assignment? Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to answer questions or help with projects. However, many of our pages have links that can direct you to sources of information.

I would like to use your images for personal use in the home. Do you have discounts for private individuals? If you have a specific use in mind, please send details using the QUOTATION FORM.

I would like to buy a picture for my wall. Do you have prints available? No but you can make prints from image files. Please use the image price calculator and online order form to calculate prices and place your order electronically.

I have no money for a licence. Can I get a free image? No. We only grant licences in exchange for a payment, like any trade or profession that charges for its services.

As a charity can we have a free image since it is for a good cause? No. However, we can take account of your charitable status when we prepare a quote. Please send details using the QUOTATION FORM.

We have a policy of not responding to requests for free images. If your planned image use is very small then the fee would be correspondingly low (see price calculator). If your planned use is significant then presumably you are paying for printing and other costs and an image license fee should be part of your budget.

I would like to use one of your images in a work of art. Is this possible? Unfortunately, this is not possible because of the complexities involved in deciding who has rights over what, continuing attribution, potential re-use of the new artwork and other considerations.

We would like to publish your image in our magazine but we would like to montage it with other images or include it in a new design. Is this possible? This might be possible but certain conditions must be met. Firstly, the appearance of our image will only be allowed in your image for the use that has been licenced. That means that you would not be allowed to use your resulting design for another purpose unless our image were removed completely from your design or a new licence fee were paid. Also, our image would require a proper attribution and other moral rights would have to be observed.

I have not received an answer to my email, what has happened? We try to answer all inquiries within 24 hours. If you have not received a reply by then please email again. If the matter is very urgent you are very welcome to phone at any time of day or night. All contact details are below. Here are a few tips to help:

• ALTERNATIVE EMAIL ADDRESS if at all possible it is a good idea to include a second email address in case your main one in unavailable. For example you might include your office and home emails. We will respond to both so you receive an answer as soon as possible.
• TELEPHONE/FAX DETAILS please include your other contact details so that in the event of email difficulties we can phone or fax you with a response. Please remember to tell us your country so that we can obtain the country code.
• EMAIL SUBJECT LINE please be as specific as possible in your email subject line.

However, please understand that we do not reply to emails that request free images. Also, we are unable to advise on scientific or medical matters or to advise on school projects.
