Rift Valley Fever Virus particle or virion. The outer protein shell or capsid is shown in translucent red. Beneath this is a bilipid membrane acquired during intracellular budding into the Golgi. The yellow central mass that can be glimpsed beneath the membrane represents the RNA genome. Rift Valley Fever Virus is an arbovirus (arthropod borne virus) and is transmitted by mosquitos among other vectors. It is a major problem in Africa.
