all calculators / CYLINDER CALCULATOR:
...enter known values for radius & height
... then click GET button. No letters or units (e.g. enter 22 not 22 cm)
Formula / equation:
ENTER Cylinder Radius > Radius = r
ENTER Cylinder Height > Height = h
Cylinder Surface Area = = 2(π r2) + h(2πr)
Cylinder Volume = = (π r2)h
Cross section (area of top or bottom) = = π r2

Figure shows a cylinder with equations (formulae) for circumference, circle area, surface area, and cylindrical volume. This cylinder also available as a 3D stereo anaglyph.

This calculator will work out the surface area of a cylinder and the volume of a cylinder if you enter the radius and height. Only enter numbers (e.g. enter 22 not 22 cm). If you try to enter a unit of measure (e.g. 22 metres, 4 miles, 10 cm) you will get an NAN (Not A Number) error appear in each box. When you have entered the numbers, click the GET button.

SURFACE AREA OF A CYLINDER is the area of the top and bottom plus the area of the wall. The area of the top is given by the formula for the area of a circle (π r2). So you need two of those (top + bottom). Then the area of the wall, which is the height (h) times the circumference (2π r2). So the total area = 2(π r2) + h(2π r2).

VOLUME OF A CYLINDER is the area of the top times the height. The area of the top is given by the formula for the area of a circle (π r2). So the total volume = h(π r2).
