human Testicle (testis) diagram (graphic)

Human Testicle (testis). This image is 500 x 500 pixels; the original measures 2,460 x 2,460 pixels.

Illustration shows a human testicle (testis). The testicle is the male gonad and produces the sperm (spermatozoa), the male sex cells (gametes). The testis also produces the hormone testosterone. The testicle contains the seminiferous tubules wherein spermatogenesis (the creation of sperm) occurs. Capping the upper aspect of the testicle is the epididymis, which leads to the deferent duct (ductus deferens or vas deferens) which conveys the sperm away from the testicle.
